Since 2004, the Tennessee Wildlife Federation has been working closely with the Tennessee General Assembly, the Tennessee Attorney General's Office and conservation partners in Tennessee to secure a public referendum on the Right to Hunt and Fish in Tennessee.

As a result, a constitutional amendment will be on the ballot on November 2, 2010, when voters go to the polls to elect a new governor for the state of Tennessee. The amendment simply affirms the personal right of Tennesseans to hunt and fish within the prescribed laws, and without violating personal property rights. This is our chance to protect our outdoor traditions in perpetuity. Today, hunting and fishing could be banned by a vote in the General Assembly or by an ill-guided lawsuit.

Our population continues to grow, yet wildlife populations are increasing and becoming more concentrated. Meanwhile, our elected representatives are coming from more suburban areas.

Hunting and fishing represent a multi-billion dollar industry, providing thousands of jobs and the overwhelming majority of conservation funding in Tennessee.

Anti-hunting and fishing activists are well-funded, and they're operating in every state. This constitutional amendment will offer much greater protection from frivolous lawsuits, activist judges and misguided legislation.

We have an opportunity to put this issue to rest, through a vote of the people. If we wait, it will be too late.

In order to pass, the amendment requires 50 percent plus one vote of the votes cast in the statewide gubernatorial election. We need your help. Please consider donating today, and forwarding this message to your friends.
